Aim High

I was reading a blog post by Patricia that I recommend.  She speaks to achieving dreams.  Dreams were not meant to remain dreams.  Visions were meant to be accomplished.  The greater the vision or dream the more power it has to move you.  The more glorious your desire, the more you can feel it, the more likely you are to achieve it.

Patricia uses the analogy of archery.  She says, “With the tools for the job and the target in sight, you take aim and soar to your future. Dream big, clarify your goal, aim high, and act, and you will hit the target you know will fulfill your life’s purpose. Remember, even by dreaming your dreams, or preparing and gaining the tools, you are succeeding in your goal, because you are moving forward towards the target.”  I’d like to affirm what she says about aiming for your goal.

I took archery in college and found out that I could not hit a target just by focusing on the target when it was at a distance.  Once I had found my target, I needed to shift my aim upward.  Instead of looking at my original target, I’d be aiming for the clouds.  Only this way could my arrow reach the target, otherwise I fell short.  So you see, you must aim high and you must dream big, and you must have your head in the clouds.  The higher you aim the further you go.

I think we give up on ourselves and our dreams too often.  It is natural to get discouraged.  Everyone does and it is part of the normal process towards an important goal.  What we must do is realize that those times will come and have a plan ready to lift our spirits.  Keep inspirational materials at hand.  Sometimes discouragement is just a hint that you deserve a break so you can come back refreshed to your goal.

I believe I’ve shared this quote before, but it one of my favorites and it is encouraging so I will share it again.  “God has not created us with aspirations and longings for heights to which we cannot climb.”
